Joanna on the issues
Why are you running for Sonoma County Supervisor?
Sonoma County is at a crossroads. Families are facing rising housing costs, barriers to mental health care, food insecurity, and economic uncertainty. At the same time, too many people feel left out of county decision-making.
I’m running to bring accountable, transparent leadership rooted in community experience and real results.
I believe county government should work for everyday residents — not just those with the loudest voices or the most access.
What experience prepares you for this role?
My background includes direct partnership with school districts and community organizations across Sonoma County. I’ve worked to:
Support Wellness Centers and Community Schools
Secure grants for students and families
Collaborate across agencies to deliver services more effectively
The Board of Supervisors oversees a $2.7 billion budget and essential services that impact daily life. I bring experience navigating complex systems, building partnerships, and delivering measurable outcomes.
How will you support working families?
My entire career has been dedicated to our kids. Our families come first.
As your Supervisor, I will prioritize:
Expanding affordable housing
Supporting food access programs
Investing in early learning and child care infrastructure
Strengthening family resource centers and community partnerships
Government should create the conditions for families to succeed, not add to their stress.
How will you strengthen oversight of the Sheriff?
Independent oversight in Sonoma County is at a breaking point.
As your Supervisor, I will work to:
Defend Measure P to ensure the mandate for civilian oversight is upheld
Fully support IOLERO to do the job voters authorized
Prioritize building community trust in policing
I am the only candidate in this race who is truly independent of the Sheriff’s influence and ready to hold leadership accountable.
How can I support the campaign?
Share the campaign with friends and neighbors
This campaign is powered by community. Together, we can build a Sonoma County that works for everyone.
How will you increase representation for unincorporated residents
Our county government should be accessible and responsive to every resident, regardless of whether they live within city limits. I am committed to ensuring that our unincorporated areas receive their fair share of attention and resources.
As Supervisor, I will work to:
Fix roads and upgrading aging waterlines in unincorporated areas
Protect agricultural land and open space
Expand county healthcare, including mental health services.
Actively invite public input in major county decision-making
Residents in our unincorporated communities deserve a representative who understands that a hands-on, localized approach to governance.
How will you increase transparency?
Residents deserve to understand how decisions are made and how resources are allocated.
As your Supervisor, I will work to:
Improve communication and public engagement
Make meetings and processes more accessible
Proactively share information with the community
Invite public input before major decisions are finalized
County government should feel accessible and responsive, not distant.
Do you support non-cooperation with ICE?
YES! Sonoma County should not cooperate with ICE. This practice must end immediately.
As your Supervisor, I will work to:
Push to implement a "No Cooperation" policy
Ensure public safety for all
Uphold clear boundaries between local & federal immigration enforcement
Our county government should protect every member of our community. Not on my watch will we allow federal overreach to tear our families apart.
How will you protect Sonoma County water?
Sonoma County’s water is not for sale. I am a firm NO on plans by federal officials to ship our water to Southern California.
As Supervisor, I will work to:
Defeat the "SoCal Water Grab"
Secure local control of our own water
Hold polluters accountable to protect water quality
Our community’s future depends on safe, clean, and locally controlled water.
I will fight to ensure that not one drop of our water is shipped away.
How will you support agriculture in the county?
It is a moral failure that the local families harvesting our food are often food insecure themselves.
As Supervisor, I will work to:
Ensure safety and legal protections for farmworkers and small farms
Expand healthcare access including defending Medi-Cal from federal cuts
Build up our emergency food safety net to provide year-round food access
Direct bilingual mental health and youth services for farmworker children
Reduce the wage gap using every county lever to help farmers live, not merely survive
Our agricultural industry thrives when its farms are supported, and its workers are healthy, secure, and respected.
